TECHNICAL SUPERINTENDENT

Location: Head Office (with UK and foreign travel as required)
Reports To: Head of Technical
Qualifications: 2nd Engineer or Chief Engineer Unlimited
Experience required: Time served as 2nd Engineer or higher, preferably on RoRos or similar. Previous experience as Technical Superintendent would be desirable.
Hours: 9am to 5pm Monday – Friday (with OOHs work, as and when required)
Salary: £60,000.00 per annum
Relocation Package: Not available

All candidates must have the right to work in the UK and hold either a British / EU passport or unrestricted work visa.

Full UK driving licence is required.


DUTIES:
To act under the direction of the Head of Technical, to ensure the safe and economic operation of the vessels allocated to his/ her fleet.

In accordance with ISM Code, the Technical Superintendent will monitor the safety and pollution
prevention aspects and ensure that adequate resources and shore‐ based support are applied.
Masters of such vessels will be directly responsible to the Technical Superintendent.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• In close liaison with the Marine Department, to be responsible for such vessels in accordance with the company's Safety Management System policies.
• To visit, or arrange visits, to his vessels on a regular basis to ensure, that the laid down standards are maintained.
• To ensure, in conjunction with the Marine Personnel Manager, that additional crew members and/or travelling fitters are supplied as required by the maintenance/repair programme.
• To prepare maintenance, rep air; spare gear, dry‐docking, stores and lub oil budgets, together with monthly cash expenditure forecasts.
• To liaise with the Operations Manager to ensure that the full operating budgets for each vessel are prepared in accordance with the Accountant's schedule.
• To maintain, with assistance from the Purchasing Manager, a continuous record of expenditure on all budgeted items and ensure that the monthly cumulative expenditure (actual and estimate) versus the relevant budgets are produced, so that variances may be immediately identified.
• To prepare, and ensure that crews carry out, the relevant planned maintenance schedules in accordance with the policy agreed with the Head of Technical.
• To prepare repair and dry‐ doc king specifications as necessary.
• To approve all maintenance, repair, spare gear, dry‐docking, stores and luboil invoices within a timely manner of their receipt by the office.
• To monitor vessels speed and consumption at sea and consumption in port, together with the efficient operation of the cargo gear, ballast pumps, together with other deck and safety equipment.
• To monitor vessel s Class and trading certificates to ensure timely renewal and/or survey.
• To carry out pre‐purchase inspection of vessels as required and submit written reports on the company's standard form within 5 working days of return to the office.
• To assist the Operations Manager in compiling monthly/quarterly reports and in dealing with marine insurance claims and liaise with the Accountant in respect of quarterly financial variance explanations.
• When required by the Head of Technical, to assess supply companies as required under Chapter 6 of the Quality Policy Manual, to ensure their suitability for inclusion on the "acceptable list".
• To authorise additions and/or deletions to the list of accept able suppliers.
• To carry out audit work when necessary in accordance with the company's Safety Management System policies.
• To keep abreast of technical development s and make suggestions regarding their application to his fleet.
• To attend seminars and conferences as required.
• Attend inter‐de part mental meetings as required.
• To notify class/flag promptly when defects affecting the classification arise.


FINANCE:
Authority for expenditure in accordance with the relevant budgets.
Expenditure over the cumulative budget to be agreed with the Head of Technical or, in his absence, the Managing Director
